Clandeboye Lodge Hotel
A
stylish 4* hotel in a beautiful rural
location, the Clandeboye Lodge is a stunning property with
a renowned brasserie, a name for excellent customer service and
the only EFQM accredited hotel in Northern Ireland. Pim Dalm, Managing Director, wanted to build on their reputation and develop their green
credentials, and immediately saw both the ecological and financial advantages
of becoming a member of GTNI.
“We are very
committed to reducing CO2 emissions,” Pim said. “We are currently in
discussion with the neighbouring Clandeboye Estate regarding a
collaborative venture, using renewable energy from their AD project,
which, if it goes ahead, could mean sustainable benefits for both
parties.”
The Clandeboye
Lodge Hotel already sources electricity generated from local wind farms and the
pioneering tidal generator in Strangford Lough, saving an estimate of 200,000
kg of carbon from being emitted.
The Lodge has
been making changes right down to planting herbs used in the kitchen
and installing halogen lights in public areas – small
features with no meagre rewards. “Our new herb garden project will result
in a considerable reduction of herb orders with our supplier and associated
reduction in CO2 emissions,” explained Pim, “and the longer lifespan and
electrical efficiency means we save between £2,500 and £3,000
annually on energy costs alone.”
